Euroscepticism in the CEE 10 years after the "big bang" enlargement

Hosted by the Institute of European Studies, Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland

When: 29.05.2014

The main aim of the event is to research and assess the evolution of euroscepticism in new member states. In particular we would like to discuss the question of whether, after ten years of integration of the new member states in the European Union, one can still recognise a specific character to Central Eastern European euroscepticism as something significantly different from that found in Western Europe, or whether the East-West boundary is no longer meaningful and has been replaced by other divisions that can be observed in the EU. What factors (political, social, economic, cultural) are responsible for the development of euroscepticism in CEE and how do they compare with similar factors which are to be found in the pre-enlargement EU-15?

The workshop will bring together researchers from both new and old member states, and would serve as a continuation of the collaboration that started within the UACES CRN on euroscepticism.

Additionally the workshop proceedings will be presented on May 30th - during the morning session of the conference organised by Polish Association of European Studies devoted to the theme of 10 years of Poland in the EU.

The event is generously supported by UACES (The Academic association for Contemporary European Studies).

Call for papers will be announced by the end of February 2014.
